PRIVACY POLICY

Effective July 2, 2026 · ClearSweep for Windows v1.1.0+

The Short Version

ClearSweep runs entirely on your computer. It makes no network calls, collects no data, and sends nothing anywhere. The only files it writes are its own settings and a deletion log, stored on your machine.

What ClearSweep Does

ClearSweep is a disk space analyzer. When you select a drive, it reads file and folder metadata (names, sizes, timestamps) from that drive to build the visualization. It scans only the drives you explicitly choose to scan, and only when you ask it to.

Data Collection

None. Specifically:

Scan results live in memory only and are discarded when you close the app.

Files ClearSweep Writes

ClearSweep writes only to its own application-data folder, %LOCALAPPDATA%\ClearSweep\:

FilePurpose
settings.jsonYour app settings (e.g. deletion mode: Recycle Bin vs. permanent)
window.settingsWindow size and position, so the app reopens where you left it
deletion-log.txtA log of deletions performed in the app (path, outcome), so you can review what was removed

All three stay on your device. The deletion log is never transmitted anywhere; you can delete these files at any time and the app will recreate them with defaults.

File Deletion

By default, files you delete with ClearSweep are moved to the Windows Recycle Bin, so they are recoverable. Permanent deletion is available only as an explicit opt-in setting.

Children's Privacy

ClearSweep collects no data from anyone, including children.

Microsoft Store

If you acquire ClearSweep through the Microsoft Store, Microsoft processes the purchase (transaction and account data) under Microsoft's Privacy Statement. ClearSweep itself never sees that data.

Changes to This Policy

If ClearSweep's privacy practices ever change (for example, adding opt-in crash reporting), this policy will be updated before any such feature ships, and the change will be called out in the release notes.
